Masterportal and MoversWebGIS

Service provider in the Masterportal ecosystem
MovingLayers is a Masterportal service provider based in Vienna. We have been working with the Masterportal for around two years: we advise on introducing it, develop extensions, integrate your data and train your team. If you would rather not build your own instance, use MoversWebGIS – our further developed version of the Masterportal.
What is the Masterportal?
The Masterportal is an open-source geoportal for the web browser. It was developed by the Hamburg Agency for Geoinformation and Surveying (LGV); today cities, states and federal authorities in Germany and Austria develop it further together, among them the City of Vienna.
The Masterportal is released under the MIT licence, so there are no licence costs. It integrates geodata services via open OGC standards such as WMS, WFS and WMTS and runs on desktop, tablet and smartphone. Your data stays in your infrastructure – the portal displays it.
Option 1: You run your own Masterportal – we support you
Do you want to use the Masterportal yourself or extend an existing portal? We accompany you:
- Implementation consulting: Together with you, we clarify requirements, data sources, hosting and roles and plan the set-up.
- Configuration and data integration: We integrate your geodata services and specialist data and set up topic trees, search and printing.
- Development: We build add-ons and tools for your specialist tasks.
- Training and support: We train your administrators and support you in day-to-day operation.
You keep full control over code, data and operation.
Option 2: MoversWebGIS – the Masterportal as a standard product
MoversWebGIS is a customised version of the Masterportal. We develop it continuously and add further functions: a cockpit that shows the objects captured with MoversSurvey on the map together with their capture time, and the integration of your own layer packages, such as the cadastral map or the road network.
MoversWebGIS suits organisations that need a working WebGIS quickly without building and maintaining a Masterportal instance themselves. The foundation remains the Masterportal with its open interfaces. MoversWebGIS is operated by Hetzner in Germany.
Data from the site inspection: MoversSurvey
With MoversSurvey you capture and check geodata during the on-site inspection – with an individual questionnaire per object, photos and GPS positioning, even offline.
The captured data flows directly into MoversWebGIS. That way you see the results of the inspection on the map in the office, without transferring data by hand. How capture, validation and analysis fit together is shown in the geodata lifecycle.
Reference: RegioWoodTrain
In the FWF research project RegioWoodTrain (2024–2027) we are developing the web demonstrator for regional timber logistics by rail on the basis of MoversWebGIS. Together with BOKU Vienna, the University of Salzburg and RailCargo Austria, we bring geodata, mobility, operational and forestry data together on one map.
The portal shows timber flows, rail hubs and transport infrastructure with its own layers and in the project's visual identity. In the following project phases, scenarios will be added, such as comparing CO₂ emissions if a station closes versus continued rail operation.

Who is it for?
- Municipalities, cities and states that provide geodata for administration and citizens.
- Utilities and network operators that make network and asset data visible internally or to partners.
- Engineering firms that share project data with clients and capture field data in a structured way.
Arrange an initial consultation
Are you considering the Masterportal, or do you want to extend an existing portal? Describe your project to us in the form. In the initial consultation we clarify whether your own Masterportal or MoversWebGIS suits you better.
