What we do
Infrastructure projects rarely fail due to missing data — they fail because the right data is in the wrong place at the wrong time. As a GIS specialist from Vienna, we help companies and public authorities change exactly that: We connect BIM, GIS, and operator knowledge on a shared data foundation — so spatial data is not just managed, but used operationally every day.

Reference projects
For TransnetBW, we developed structured QGIS projects as a binding communication medium in complex grid approval procedures. In the Interreg project DIGIWAY, we implemented a cross-border geospatial pipeline for the EUREGIO Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino as IT partner — presented at AGIT 2025, to which we returned in 2026 as Silver Sponsor with opening remarks, a workshop impulse talk, and our own marketplace booth. For the FFG initiative ABM4EnergyTransition, we developed a web application with interactive maps, dashboards, and scenario controls for municipal heat planning. Since 2026, MovingLayers has been responsible for updating and operating waldbrand.at on behalf of BOKU Vienna — Austria's information platform for wildfire risk and early warning.
Research & consortium partnerships
MovingLayers is active as an entrepreneurial consortium partner in funded research projects, contributing GIS and geospatial AI expertise to interdisciplinary initiatives. What we learn does not stay in the lab: We continuously transfer insights from research projects into our products and services — from new analysis methods in Kermit GeoAI to extended data structures in MoversSurvey.
In the FFG project Virtual Shepherd (2024–2026), we are developing a satellite-based monitoring system for livestock herds in alpine regions together with partners — based on integrated communication and positioning technology as well as geospatial AI and high performance computing.
In the FFG project RegioWoodTrain (2024–2027), we are working on sustainable regional timber transport chains: Simulation and AI technology are intended to help make climate-related damaged timber crises more manageable in the planning, control, and monitoring of supply chains.
The completed FFG project ABM4EnergyTransition (2022–2024) exemplifies how this transfer works: The research results became the direct foundation of our web application for municipal heat planning.
Our products
MoversSurvey enables offline field data capture — structured, spatially referenced, and directly integrable into the geodatabase. As the first step in the value chain, MoversSurvey ensures that field data is available from day one in the quality that later analyses and GeoAI evaluations require.
Kermit GeoAI complements this as an optional extension with natural-language geodata analysis in QGIS — on-premise, human-in-the-loop, and EU AI Act compliant. Domain questions can be translated directly into spatial decisions: reproducible, auditable, with full data sovereignty. Developed for network operators, public authorities, infrastructure planners, and civil engineers who work with spatial data — and who are unwilling to accept external dependencies or compromises on data security.
